Whip Demonstration at Ratha Con 2014
My table setup at the con. It was very small, which was fine. I was just there with some whips, some brochures, and to hock my short novel that hadn't been published yet ;)
Discussing the different types of whips. This is a modern replica of a South African Sjambok, made by Cold Steel out of California. They are used for riot control. They are NOT supersonic and are NOTHING like the whips I teach.
A bit more with the Sjambok
The Sjambok and a multi-strand leather "Flogger"...Again, neither Supersonic and neither of the type I teach the use of.
Showing the structure in the transition zone of an Australian bullwhip. This one, a 6 foot model from the legendary craftsman, Terry Jacka.
Showing the loop produced as a wave on kinetic energy travels down the length of the whip, accelerating until the whip breaks the sound barrier and "cracks"
Gettin' my Indy on. That's an 8 foot "Indiana Jones" style bullwhip by Paul Nolan. It's a slower, more sinewy whip than the Jacka model.
