The "Mach One" in MACH ONE Whip Artistry refers to the scientific term for the speed of sound.
That distinct "Crack" that whips make is actually a small sonic boom, and is produced when the tip of the whip breaks the sound barrier.
In order to do that, the tip of the whip must reach speeds in excess of 1400 feet per second, or 750-800 miles per hour, (340 meters/sec. for those preferring metric.)
MACH ONE was founded by whip artist and coach, Daniel Trout in order to promote and share the unique art and skill of whip cracking. You can read more about him and his approach to whip artistry here.
We have also prepared a brief history of whips and whip cracking, as well as a section devoted to the design and function of the whips we use.
